Gavorrano
Gavorrano is located on the northern Poggio Ballone east of Scarlino, in a particularly rich area from the point of view mining, consists for the most part by large deposits of pyrite used intensively until the early eighties with the opening of several mines. In medieval times there are still visited the walls with square towers and a round arched doorway. The Church of San Giuliano also built during the Middle Ages was rebuilt during the eighteenth century. Inside are kept a fourteenth-century Madonna and Child. We can also find the "Network museum Maremma", "Park mining natural" and the "Centre for documentation and archaeological site of Castel di Pietra. Park mining stands outside of the village, inside a mine that was used until the second half of the twentieth century.
